Selective Admissions for Health Professions

Students pursuing a degree in a health professions program must meet minimum eligibility requirements to apply, as admission is competitive. Some programs have selective admission due to limited availability of clinical placements and the number of students who can be accommodated in practicum settings. These selective admission procedures apply to all applicants. Admission to Lincoln Land Community College does not guarantee acceptance into a selective health program.

 

Selective admission requirements

Students who wish to pursue the following 69·çÁ÷ health professions programs must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool. 

Applications for the fall admission cycle are accepted the first Monday in November through the second Thursday in June. Applications for the spring admission cycle are accepted the first Monday in June through the last Friday in October. No late applications will be accepted.

Students who choose to pursue an Associate Degree in nursing (RN) must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool:

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have an ATI TEAS score of proficient or higher (TEAS scores are valid for five years and may be accepted from any location offering the TEAS testing). View information on ATI TEAS testing and how to register for an ATI TEAS test at 69·çÁ÷. See the 69·çÁ÷ Testing Center, for information on how to register for the TEAS exam.
  • Chemistry 100 or 101 with C or above within the last five years OR high school chemistry with C or above within the last five years.
  • Demonstrate placement into MAT 141, or any other college level math within the last five years.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Demonstrate placement into BIO 175.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all previous college courses or high school GPA of 2.5 (on 4 point scale). High school GPA will be considered until the student has completed nine hours of program specific courses. Submit official transcripts from all colleges ever attended to 69·çÁ÷ Records. Students who do not or delay doing this may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).
Understand the selective admission point system

Qualified applicants who have, or will have, met all admission criteria will be placed in rank order based on the number of points predicted in the evaluation. Spots will be offered to the top students in this process. 

3. Meet with a student success advisor

Make an appointment with the health professions student success advisor by calling 217-786-2224. Your student success advisor will provide a detailed review of the admission requirements as well as the selective admission procedures. Once all program admission requirements have been met, the student success advisor will prompt you to apply by the program deadline. 

Nursing student success advisors are only available at the main campus in Springfield, located within the Student Services Hub in Menard Hall.


Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the ADN program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet.

  • A health assessment
  • Documentation of required immunizations
  • A criminal background check and drug screening
  • AHA-BLS (CPR) certification for health care providers
  • Drug screening
  • Background check
  • Functional abilities

Applications for the basic nurse assistant (CNA) program are accepted on a rolling basis. The program is offered in both fall and spring semesters and during the summer term.

Students who choose to pursue the CNA program must meet the minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Must meet one of the following reading criteria:

  • Reading placement score of 240 or higher.
  • ACT reading score of 18 or higher.
  • SAT writing/reading score of 477 or higher.
  • High school GPA of 2.7or higher.
  • GED Reasoning Through Language Arts score of 175 or higher.

2. Criminal background check

A fingerprint-based criminal background check is required by law for all nurse assistant students and must be completed prior to registration. (Background checks from other 69·çÁ÷ Health Professions programs are not transferrable.) Please use the Background Authorization Request link (green button above) to begin the process.

Once we process your disclosure from, we will send you a Livescan form to take to an approved vendor for fingerprinting. The vendor will give you a receipt tha tyou will need to return to us via one of the below methods.

  • 69·çÁ÷ Student Services Hub, Menard Hall, Springfield campus
  • LCC Outreach Center (Jacksonville, Litchfield, Taylorville)
  • Email a copy to the CNA program.

Once the background check steps are completed and all required paperwork has been submitted, you will receive an email confirming you have completed the background check requirement.

Please note: Students with disqualifying convictions on their background checks cannot participate in the CNA course. Students may apply for a waiver and enroll if it is approved. A list of disqualifying convictions can be found at .

Requirements after acceptance

  • Social security/ITIN card
  • Physical examination, completed on the 69·çÁ÷ CNA physical form
  • Documentation of required immunizations, including COVID-19 and influenza
  • Tuberculosis (TB) test
  • Drug screening

Attendance on the first day of class and clinical is mandatory and cannot be made up. If a student must be absent on a subsequent day, no more than two class periods may be missed and made up during a scheduled make-up day or another section which may differ from your regular scheduled class time.

 

Applications for the class starting in June 2026 will be accepted from April 1, 2025 through 5 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2026, or until filled. 

Students pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in cardiovascular sonography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

 1. Information session

View or attend an information session. When registering, attendees may choose from an online information session through Microsoft Teams or an on-demand session for immediate access. Links for the Teams info session will be sent to the email address provided in the registration form.

The CVS program has a limited enrollment and student selection criteria are covered in detail in the information session.

2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher for all previous college courses. Submit official transcripts from all colleges ever attended to be evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ Records. Students that delay doing so may jeopardize their ability to apply to, be accepted to or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Have a minimum of proficient or higher score on the ATI TEAS test taken within the past two years (scores may be accepted from any location offering the TEAS testing) OR have an associate's degree or bachelor's degree.
  • Have completed college-level algebra, statistics or higher mathematics course (MAT 105, 113, 120, 141 or higher) with a grade of "C" or higher, prior to program admission. Course must have been taken within the last five years.
  • Qualify to take BIO 175 Human Anatomy and Physiology I.
  • Provide evidence of satisfactory physical health (required of practitioners to carry out the tasks of this occupation).

Qualified applicants who have met all admissions criteria at the time of application will be placed in rank order based on the number of points predicted in the evaluation. In addition to meeting the minimum admission requirements, applicants may earn points for specific factors such as prior degrees, certifications, coursework, grades and other criteria. Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the cardiovascular sonography program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment/physical examination
  • Documentation of required immunizations
  • Criminal background check and drug screening
  • Certification for American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (AHA-BLS). This must be completed before the end of the first semester. 

Central sterile service technician is a selective admission program.

1. Complete selective program requirements

Students interested in earning a Central Sterile Service Technician (CSST) certificate of completion must meet one of the following criteria to be admitted to the program.

  • Demonstrate proficiency of college-level reading.
  • Hold a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Completion of a college-level reading course (EGL 101 or its equivalent) with a grade of C or higher from an accredited college or universitiy.
  • An ACT reading scoure of 22 or higher.
  • An SAT evidence-based reading and writing score of 480 or higher.

2. Meet with a student success advisor

Health professions student success advisors are only available at the main campus in Springfield, located within the Student Services Hub in Menard Hall.

Applications for the class starting in June 2026 will be accepted from April 1, 2025 through 5 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2026, or until filled. 

Students pursuing an Associate in Applied Science degree in diagnostic medical sonography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. View or attend an information session

The DMS program has a limited enrollment and student selection criteria are covered in detail in the information session.

2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have a 2.5 GPA or higher for all previous college courses. Submit official transcripts from all colleges attended to be evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ Records. Students that delay doing so may jeopardize their ability to apply to, be accepted to or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Have a minimum of proficient or higher score on the ATI TEAS test taken within the past two years (scores may be accepted from any location offering the TEAS testing) OR have an associate's degree or bachelor's degree.

Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the diagnostic medical sonography program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment/physcial examination.
  • Documentation of required immunizations.
  • Criminal background check and drug screening.
  • Certification for American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (AHA-BLS). This must be completed before the end of the first semester.

  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges ever attended to 69·çÁ÷ Records. Students who do not or delay doing this may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Employer verification of at least 1,000 hours as a praticing LPN in a direct-care position.
  • Provide a copy of your LPN license.

  • Functional abilities

Applications for the neurodiagnostic technology program are accepted through the second Thursday in June, or until the program is filled. Sixteen students are admitted to the fall cohort.

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree or certificate of achievement in neurodiagnostic technology must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Attend an information session

When registering, attendees may choose from an online information session through Microsoft Teams or an on-demand session for immediate access. 2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all previous college courses or high school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4-point scale). High school GPA will be considered until the student has completed nine hours of program specific courses.

3. Meet with a student success advisor (optional)

Once all program admission requirements have been met, the student success advisor will prompt you to apply by the program deadline.

Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the neurodiagnostic technology program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment
  • Documentation of required immunizations
  • Criminal background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for health care providers (American Heart Association). This must be copleted by the end of the second semester.

Applications for the occupational therapy assist program open each year on Sept. 1 and are accepted through the second Thursday in June. Admissions are processed on a rolling basis. Sixteen students are admitted to the fall cohort. Once the class is full, qualified applicants will be placed on a wait list in the order their application was recieved. Students on the wait list will be notified if an opening becomes available.

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree as an occupational therapy assistant must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

 1. Attend an information session

Register to attend an information session to fulfill this requirement for admission. When registering, attendees may choose from an online information session through Teams or an on-demand session for immediate access. 

 2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have official transcripts from all colleges ever attended evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ admissions and registration. Students who neglect to do this, or delay doing this, may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Complete two years of high school lab sciences or two semesters of college lab sciences (BIO 101, BIO 175, BIO 176) with grades of a "C" or above within the last five years.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher for all previous college classes.
  • Complete the ATI-TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills). A basic score is required. A proficient score (55% or higher) is preferred. The TEAS score must be within 36 months of the end date of candidacy. Review the ATI-TEAS Fact Sheet for Allied Health Programs.

3. Observation experience

As part of the OTA admissions process, prospective students must observe occupational therapy services for a minimum of seven hours. The professional observed must be licensed as an occupational therapist or occupational therapy assistant. Contact the OTA program director for the OTA Observation Experience Form. This requirement allows for observation at more than one site and the practice area of your choosing:

  • hospitals
  • outpatient clinics
  • nursing homes
  • sub-acute rehab settings
  • early intervention
  • community settings
  • schools

Following the completion of the seven observation hours, prospective students must upload the OTA Observation Experience form with their online application.

4. Meet with a student success advisor

Applications for the LPN program are accepted the first Monday in November through the second Thursday in June, or until filled.

Students who choose to pursue a certificate of achievement in practical nursing (LPN) must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool:

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Admission/Records/Registration.
  • Have an ATI TEAS score of proficient or higher (TEAS scores are valid for five years and may be accepted from any location offering the TEAS testing).   • Demonstrate placment out of MAT 092. If necessary, complete remedial courses prior to application.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Demonstrate placement into BIO 175.
  • Be a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and listed on the state Healthcare Worker Registry.
  • Cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better for all courses previously taken at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges ever attended to 69·çÁ÷ Records. Students who do not or delay doing this may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree in radiography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

The RAD program has a limited enrollment and student selection criteria are covered in detail in the information session. 

2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have official transcripts from all colleges ever attended evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ admissions and registration. Students who neglect to do this, or delay doing this, may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Demonstrate placement into a college-level mathematics class (MAT 104, its equivalent or above.)
  • Complete two years of high school lab sciences or two semesters of college lab sciences (BIO 101, 107, 111, 175, 176, CHE 100 or PHY 100) with grades of a "C" or above within the last five years.
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher for all previous college classes, or a high school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale). High school GPA will be considered until the student has completed nine hours of program-specific courses or required program general education courses.
  • Complete the ATI-TEAS (Test of Essential Academic Skills) with a basic score or higher within the past five years or have an associate degree or higher. Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the radiography program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment.
  • Documentation of required immunizations.
  • CPR certification for health care providers (American Heart Association). This must be completed by the end of the first semester.
  • Criminal background check and drug screening.
    • If the results indicate issues, this information will be shared with the appropriate college administrators to determine the next steps.
    • Any finding on the criminal background check requires the student to contact the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists to complete the Ethics Review Pre-Application, at the students' expense. The results of the ethics review must be provided to the program director immediately upon receipt.

Applications for the spring admission cycle are accepted through the second Thursday in June, or until the program is filled. 

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree in respiratory care must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. View an information session

2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all previous college courses or high school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4-point scale). High school GPA will be considered until the student has completed nine hours of college courses.
  • Complete one year of high school science or biology or college equivalent with a minimum grade of a "C" or better.
  • Have official transcripts from all colleges ever attended evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ admissions and registration. Students who neglect to do this, or delay doing this, may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.

Beginning with the fall 2026 cohort, qualified applicants who have, or will have, met all admission criteria will be placed in rank order based on the number of points predicted in the evaluation. Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the respiratory care program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment
  • Documentation of required immunizations
  • Criminal background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for health care providers (American Heart Association)
Orientation requirement

A required orientation will be held prior to the start of the program. Attendance at orientation is not optional.

Applications for surgical technology are accepted through the second Thursday in June, or until the program is filled. 

Students who choose to pursue an associate in applied science degree in surgical technology must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Attend an information session

Register to attend an information system and fulfill this requirement for admission. Session dates and times may vary. All sessions are held online via Microsoft Teams, links will be emailed 24 hours in advance.

2. Complete selective program requirements

  • Submit high school transcripts with proof of graduation or GED certificate to 69·çÁ÷ Records.
  • Have a composite ACT score of 19 or higher, or SAT total score of 980, or achieve an overall score of proficient on the TEAS test. ACT, SAT and TEAS are waived if the student has a bachelor's degree or higher.
  • Demonstrate placement into EGL 101.
  • Complete HLT 109 (Medical Terminology) with a grade of "C" or better. This should be completed before admission to the program or within the first semester of the program.
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better for all previous college courses.
  • Have official transcripts from all colleges ever attended evaluated by 69·çÁ÷ admissions and registration. Students who neglect to do this, or delay doing this, may jeopardize their ability to apply, be accepted or remain enrolled in a health professions program at 69·çÁ÷.

3. Meet with a student success advisor

Make an appointment with the health professions student success advisor by calling 217-786-2224. Your student success advisor will provide a detailed review of the admission requirements as well as the selective admission procedures. Once all program admission requirements have been met, the student success advisor will prompt you to apply by the program deadline. 

Health professions student success advisors are only available at the main campus in Springfield, located within the Student Services Hub. 


Requirements after acceptance

Once an applicant has been accepted into the surgical technology program, there are additional requirements the applicant must meet, at their expense.

  • Health assessment
  • Documentation of required immunizations
  • Criminal background check and drug screening
  • CPR certification for health care providers (American Heart Association) completed by the end of the program's second semester.

Applications for the surgical technology transition program will be accepted thorugh the second Thursday in June, or until the program is filled. 

Students who choose to pursue an applied science degree in surgical technology must meet the minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool.

1. Possess the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential

  • The certification must be in good standing with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) and not revoked. A copy of the current certification card and/or certificate is required.
  • Possess a certificate of completion/diploma in surgical technology from an accredited surgical technology program. A copy of the graduate certificate is required.
  • Have employment as a surgical technologist with a minimum of one year of current operating room experience. A letter of employment verification must be provided by the employer.

2. Meet with a student success advisor

Applications for the vascular sonography program will be accepted through the second Thursday in June or until the program is filled. Applications must be received by this time to be considered for the class beginning in August of the same year.

Students who choose to pursue a certificate of completion in vascular sonography must meet the following minimum criteria to enter the applicant pool:

1. Attend an information session

Register to attend an information session. 69·çÁ÷'s vascular sonography program has a limited enrollment, and student selection criteria are covered in detail at the information session.

2. Compete selective program requirements
 

  • Provide current certification as credentialed general or cardiac sonographer (i.e., ARDMS: RDMS, ARDMS: RDCS, CCI: RCS, ARRT: RT-S).
  • Provide evidence of satisfactory physical health required of practitioners to carry out the tasks of this occupation.

3. Employer/Clinical Site Participation Letter

Applicants must submit an employer/clinical site participation letter on official employer/site letterhead and signed by the hospital or clinic administrator. The letter must state that the employer/clinical site is willing to provide the student with sufficient on-site vascular scanning experience for the duration of the vascular program and verification of clinical skills required for ARDMS exam qualification. The letter must include employer/clinical site contact information for verification purposes.
