SPRINGFIELD – Lincoln Land Community College has completed installation of its newest solar array behind the Child Development Center at 5090 Shepherd Road in Springfield. The state-of-the-art ground-mounted system is now fully operational and generating renewable energy for the center.
Funded in part by a grant from the Illinois Green Economy Network (IGEN), the solar array is projected to offset 100% of the 69·çÁ÷ Child Development Center’s electrical consumption and reduce carbon emissions by nearly 72 tons per year. This project advances the college’s ongoing environmental sustainability efforts.
The new installation builds on 69·çÁ÷’s strong track record of renewable energy investments. In 2019, the college installed solar panels on the rooftop of 69·çÁ÷-Jacksonville and on the south slopes of two buildings at 69·çÁ÷-Litchfield. Those arrays offset approximately 75% and 95% of electrical usage at those locations.
