69风流 and Extension to host horticulture workshop for elementary teachers

SPRINGFIELD 鈥� Lincoln Land Community College and Illinois Extension are partnering to offer a Horticulture Institute for teachers of grades K-5 on June 25 and 26, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Kreher Agriculture Center on the 69风流-Springfield campus, 5250 Shepherd Road.
 
This two-day workshop will provide training on how to incorporate hands-on horticulture learning into classrooms. No green thumb is required. Participants will be able to get their hands dirty with hands-on activities about seed starting, plant cuttings, growing plants indoors, plant parts and pollinators. Other discussion topics will include the importance of exposure to green spaces, plant science curriculum, kids鈥� gardening books and an opportunity to share ideas with fellow teachers.
 
Participants will receive 12 professional development hours, a notebook of lessons covered in the institute, plants for use in the classroom, lunch and snacks.
